MP3 Audio File Format – A New Format for Storing Sounds

Here is another article to help newcomers to the world of MP3:
MP3 is the latest and the most popular audio format that is used now. This acronym stands for MPEG Layer 3. It is a compressed audio format with a compression ratio of up to 12: 1. The sound quality of the audio in this format is very high. A normal audio file, which is 1200 KB in size, can be stored in just 100 KB if it is using the MP3 format. The size of the audio files is very small when compared to other formats of audio files. This makes it easily portable.
Where to get MP3 audio files?
MP3 audio files are widely available in CDs now. Almost any album that is released in the world is also sold in the MP3 audio format. These albums in the MP3 formats are also available in some websites that are dedicated for MP3 downloads. You can also purchase these MP3 CDs at any audio store meant for that purpose.
MP3 downloads
Free MP3 downloads are also available in some of the websites. You need to become a member of these sites for a fee to download unlimited number of songs in the MP3 format. Some of the sites charge you for each song that is downloaded.

MP3 Ringtones
With the advent of the mobile phones, it has become a fashion to make your mobile call you with your favorite songs as Ringtones. Youngsters particularly teenagers are more interested in using Ringtones of the songs they like. This has picked up in such a manner that MP3 Ringtones are now being sold in websites. Many websites sell Ringtones in the MP3 format. The mobile you are using should be capable of playing the Ringtones in the MP3 format to use these MP3 Ringtones. These websites provide you with an interface to select the model of the mobile phone you have and then download MP3 Ringtones that suit your mobile phone model.

Are Free File Download Services Really Safe?

On Monday June 27, 2005 the Supreme Court ruled that Grokster and Streamsoft, two free file download services, were operating illegally because they were allegedly encouraging illegal downloads of copyrighted material.Encouraging it...that was what the Supreme Court said. Thesewere free services that were encouraging illegal activity.Would this have happened if they had had paying customers? Inother words, would a paid file download service be better than a free download service?I think so, and here's my reasoning why...If you consider that every dollar paid is like a vote, then it becomes clear the paid file downloading services are much more accountable than free file downloading services. If you follow my metaphor so far, then you may see how a paid file download service is like an elected official, and a freefile download service is like a dictator. Here's how they differ:
1. If an elected official doesn't get enough votes, the elected official doesn't get re-elected and is "out of there".
2. A dictator doesn't care about votes. A dictator doeswhatever they want. And, if you get hurt by what they do....well, it's YOUR problem.Basically, it's all about accountability.A legitimate business has to make money to survive. If a business hurts people, customers will stop buying from that business and go elsewhere. And, if people stop buying from that business, then that business is "out of there" (just like the elected official which loses votes). But a free file sharing service can "do what it wants", just likea dictator, and if they even go to the level of encouraging you to do things that are illegal, even lying to you by telling you that it's perfectly legal... well it's no skin off their nose. It's your problem!Or so they thought...up to now.For the first time, the Supreme Court has made these shady liars legally responsible for their bad behavior. They got away with it in the past by "advising" people to dothings that were potentially illegal. They rationalized it bysaying "Hey, we aren't the ones actually doing it, so weshouldn't be held responsible."But the Supreme Court has finally cleared this up. They are responsible, and can now be sued for their actions. Even if they did it for "FREE"."FREE"... that was the draw that got so many innocent kids downloading songs, videos, movies, games, etc. illegally without knowing it. The "FREE" file downloading services were just exploiting these kids' ignorance.Paid download services can't afford this kind of behavior. They look at this as a business. If they start getting their customers in trouble, word gets around pretty fast on the internet, and their business will become toast!Think of this like NetFlix, who doesn't sell download services, but sends out CDs and DVDs through the mail. What would happento them if they "encouraged" purchasing illegally copied movies or music from them? Yeah you got it... toast! But the "FREE" file sharing services that are encouraging kids to do this thought they could get away with this indefinitely because "they weren't making any money off of it, and after all, they weren't the actual people doing the downloading."Nice legal trickery... good thing it won't work anymore!So... the question still begging to be asked is:"Are paid file download services better than free file download services?"I'll let you take it from here... ;^)

Using an MP3 For A Better Life

Would you like to turn on your MP3 player and have a better quality of life, and
even self improvement? There are three ways you can use music to accomplish
this.
Music For Motivation
Put some energetic music into your MP3 player, and even doing housework seems
less like work. Using music to motivate yourself or change your mood is an area
where you can trust your experience and experimentation. When you find the
msic that energizes you, relaxes you, or makes you happy, keep it ready for when
you need it.
Music For Intelligence
Music creates neural pathways in your brain that stimulate creativity. Studies show
that music trains the brain for higher forms of thinking. In one study,
three-year-olds were split into two groups. The first had no special training in, or
exposure to music. The second group studied piano and sang daily in chorus.
Eight months later the musical three-year-olds were much better at solving
puzzles. They also scored 80% higher in spatial intelligence than the other group.
There's also anectdotal evidence that listening to music, especially from Mozart's
era, can help you study and learn better.
Hopefully there will be more research. In the meantime there's no reason not to
do your own experimentation. I've heard that Stephen King writes with loud rock
music playing, so the benefits of music may be according to your own tastes or
brain-organization.
Music For Brainwave Entrainment
Want to listen to some music, and get smarter, or have instant easy meditation?
There are products now that "entrain" your brainwaves, in order to put you in a
meditative state. Music is embedded with beats and pulses that entrain your brain
waves to a specific frequency. Put in the right MP3 for your activity, and you get
better brain function. Science? Partly.
Brain wave frequencies vary with mental state. Daydreaming and light meditation
take place in the "Alpha" range of frequencies, for example. So if you listen to
music containing beats at a frequency of 10 Hz you will generate more
brainwaves at a 10 Hz frequency and enter a relaxed Alpha mental state. Do these
things really work?
Yes. I've found two products that put me in a peaceful state unlike any other
music or meditative practice. Studies will prove the effects (some have already),
and disprove the wilder claims. Given my results, however, I wouldn't wait for
more research. Many things work long before the scientific proof arrives.
If you are skeptical, you can wait for more evidence of the benefits of brainwave
entrainment. Meanwhile, why not download some classical music into your MP3
for when you study, just to see if it helps? Experiment with music - Mozart isn't
dangerous.

Downloading Music!

Downloading Music!
MP3 technology was the catalyst to one of the biggest revolutions in the media business in nearly 30 years. When cassette tapes became popular in the late 1970's and early 1980's, the music industry did the now-familiar Chicken Little dance about its way of life being destroyed. The industry quickly co-opted that threat, turning albums on cassettes into a very lucrative business. In the mid-80's, CDs promised superior quality at lower prices, but we wound up only getting the better quality. Consumers never got the promised price break—album prices continued to climb. Those chickens would come home to roost soon enough.
It's taken the music industry the better part of ten years to finally devise some legal alternatives to the P2P file-sharing networks, and now there are well over a dozen online music services legally offering a wide range of genres to satisfy most musical palettes. Aside from one service's downloads being three cents cheaper than the next, what sets them apart? Which one gives you most flexibility about how you enjoy your music? And which one really gives you the most of what you want for your money? Click Here! For fast,Easy Unlimited Downloads!

Looking For an MP3 Player? by: Levi Bloom If you don’t have an mp3 player, and even if you do, you should check out all the
new stuff that’s going on. I’m hoping this article will give you some idea of what
kind of mp3 player you want and some tips on what to look for in an mp3 player.
Maybe you work out and need something small and skip-proof for running or
lifting. Maybe you have an 8 hour (or longer) plane ride when you go home and
need to pass the time. Maybe you want a new one just for the sake of having a
new one. Whatever it is, this article should help you choose.
First, for those of you who want something for working out: The two most
important things to look for are size/weight and solid state memory, things CD
players lack. You want something that you can clip to your shorts or strap to your
arm that won’t interfere with your movements, and you want it to be light enough
so you don’t even notice it. (Tip: Get a lithium ion battery to save even more
weight.) To be sure that your player will not skip if you move too much or too fast,
get one with solid state internal Flash memory, which has no moving parts so it
can’t skip. These are usually available as 64 to 512 MB models, with a 64 MB
model holding roughly an hour of music. Prices typically range from $100 to $300.
On the other hand, you may want to store all 16,000 songs in your collection on
your mp3 player so you never hear the same one twice. In this case you need a
hard drive based mp3 player, commonly known as an mp3 jukebox, for which you
could pay up to $500. It will be a little bigger and heavier than and not quite as
durable as a solid state mp3 player, but that isn’t a concern if you just want to sit
around and listen to music. And they are still far more portable than a CD player.
Torn between a small, light, solid state mp3 player and a hard drive based player
that holds thousands of songs? Well, the iPod Mini may be for you! The iPod Mini
is just one model in a new breed of small hard drive mp3 players. They are a little
lighter and smaller than normal hard drive players, and hold more songs than the
average solid state mp3 player. (Did I mention the iPod Mini comes in blue, green,
gold, and pink?) That’s it for the main differences, but here are some more things
you should look for when making a purchase: long battery life, an FM tuner, voice
recorder, an easy to read screen, and compatibility with your computer.

This is a review from a buyer of the Mp3 player under review:
Having read all reviews I decided on E003FBC for the radio option but as another reviewer recommended, I purchased Sennheiser CX300 headphones to improve sound. It was good advice a marked improvement in sound quality. Re the software having loaded from CD version 3.4 I downloaded latest version 4.2 from "Sonicstage", following the instructions I had no problems downloading tracks and importing from CD.The sound is excellent from music tracks but reception from FM radio can be patchy. My only difficulty is reading the small screen and getting my fingers to operate the tiny controls but then I am over 70 so it's not the Walkmans fault!!.

Legally Download Music and Mp3's

Hi again,
another useful article aimed at the newcomer to the world of Mp3:

Legally Download Music and MP3's
by: Charles Oakland
Downloading music is one of the greatest things about owning a computer. However, the most popular way to do it is illegal. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is trying to stop anyone from downloading music illegally and have recently been passing out hefty fines to prevent downloading. In the wake of a Supreme Court ruling, companies can be sued for encouraging illegal downloading, most notably and recently Kazaa. With the recent shutdown of the top music downloading networks, one has to ask: Can I Still Download Music?Yes, at plenty of Web sites, some requiring payments and some free. Pay sites that have licensing agreements with the entertainment industry -- such as iTunes, Rhapsody, Yahoo Music and others -- are panting for your business. Sites battling the industry such as Grokster and Morpheus -- which were targeted in Monday's decision -- face a cloudier future. While the Supreme Court sent their case back to a federal appeals court for trial, they are almost sure to lose. They and other file-sharing services that allow for sharing of copyrighted files -- and make money off it, through advertising and other means -- may fold or have to change their sites drastically.Unfortunately these top profile downloading sites often charge a hefty fee for their access. Basic membership fees often cost upwards of $30 a month, while tracks start at $1 a piece. Alternatives have arisen that promise to give you the same amount of content but at a cheaper price. These alternatives include: MP3-share, mp3downloadhq, legal music access, and online download network. Reviews of these programs can be found at http://music.webreviews.ca managed by http://webreviews.ca About the author:Charles Oakland is a journalist by nature who manage the popular web review site: Free Web Reviews Free MP3 Reviews

An article for newcomers to The World of Mp3

Hello again,
This will be my second post, and to start things up,I thought that an article which provides an intro into The World of Mp3 would be appropriate. Here goes!
Turn CDs into MP3 files
It's inevitable: One day, you'll find that downloading MP3s from the
Internet just isn't enough. You'll want to start doing your own
encoding--after all, who has better taste than you? One great reason to
get into MP3 encoding is so you can put together an online mix and
send the location to your friends. But whatever your reason, you'll need
to be able to encode MP3s for free and without a lot of undue hassle. Required Attention Span: 1 minute to 3 minutes per songBefore you start, you'll need to gather these elements:CDs CD-ROM drive MusicMatch Jukebox Follow These Simple Steps: Step OneDownload and install MusicMatch Jukebox. There are other options, but
at present it's the easiest way to encode MP3s at high quality without
paying for registration. Step TwoQuit all other programs and run MusicMatch. Allow the software to
perform whatever diagnostic tests it wants to on your CD-ROM drive and
system. The more accurately it knows the read speed of your drive and
your computer's system resources, the better it will be at ripping your
CDs. Step ThreeClick the Record button on the player to open the encoder and insert an
audio CD into the CD-ROM drive. MusicMatch will sync up with the CDDB
to find the names of the tracks, which will be automatically turned into
ID3 tags in the MP3s you're making. This makes them easy to identify
after they're converted. Step FourGo to the Options menu and choose Recorder/Settings. In the Recording
Quality section, choose the bit rate at which you want to record. For
CD-quality sound, we recommend setting the bit rate at 128 kbps (or
higher if you think better sound is worth larger file sizes). Step FiveCheck the boxes next to the tracks you want to encode. Click the Record
button to begin encoding. Don't use your computer for anything else
while encoding, or else you risk adding skips to your MP3s. Step SixAfter you're done encoding, the file is ready to be archived in your music
collection, sent to friends, or uploaded to a Web page.
